This week’s blog is about Laylatul Qadr.
So what actually is Laylatul Qadr, often known as the Night of Power?
Well, firstly let’s see what Allah (swt) says about this night in the Qur’an.
“Indeed We sent it [the Holy Quran] down on the Night of Power. What will convey to you what the Night of Power is? Better is the Night of Power than a thousand months. In that Night the angels and the Spirit descend by the permission of their Lord for every errand. Peace it is, until the break of dawn.” – Quran, Chapter 97 Al-Qadr
This amazing night is also the same night our beloved Prophet (pbuh) received the first revelation that culminated in the Qur’an, so yes an amazing night, the night of Power.
Better than a 1000 months. How easy it is to simply say that but not understand it. Better than a 1000 month is better than 83 years. So worshipping Allah (swt) on this one night, by praying, reading Qur’an is better than 83 years of worship. Mash’Allah. What an opportunity for us.
Now imagine one thing. Imagine the President of your country invites you to a special feast and tells you he is going to reward you with magnificent gifts, giving you wonderful presents but providing you behave yourself in a particular way during the feast. What would you do?
I’m sure like me; you would leave no stone unturned to present yourself in the best possible manner. After all, we all want magnificent gifts, right? We would think what we should wear? What we should say? Perhaps call his secretary asking what gifts he would like? Arrange the best car to take us there? Make sure our hair is perfect. I am positive we would try to do all these things.
But this night is different.
Laylatul Qadr is an invitation from the President of Presidents, The Supreme One. Our Lord, our Creator. Allah (swt)
So how do we need to make preparations for this night?
So very simple Mash’Allah.
There are 3 stages, that I personally would recommend.
Firstly prepare MENTALLY…Your aim is to keep Allah (swt) in your mind the whole night. That nice carpet you’re sitting, that nice rug, maybe your comfy bed, is better than the cold, wet dark night where you could easily be spending tonight if not for Allah’s (swt) kindness. It’s important to be fully awake, fresh and have a live fresh heart when making your prayers and Ibadat
Secondly prepares, PHYSICALLY…Your aim should be to spend the whole night, so find a suitable place, wear something comfortable and decent, and also try to understand what you are asking for from Allah (swt) That way it means more
Finally, prepare, SPIRITUALLY…Your aim should be to ask, “O Allah you are the most compassionate, and you are the shelter of unsheltered ones!” “Where is Your vast blessing? Where is Your infinite forgiveness? Where are Your love and benevolence?” Ask for forgiveness of past sins in the most appealing manner with a promise to try never to return to the sins again – a tawba in every sense of the word Present ones requests before the Almighty with full hope that they will be answered.
Prophet Mohammad (saw) when asked what one should invoke Allah (SWT) during these nights, said: “Ask for your safety (here and in the hereafter)”.
I wish you all success in this. Ameen
